Happy Birthday to ME
My birthday was on Sunday, and 2 of my beautiful daughters made me dinner and dessert. McKenzie and Tim made flank stake, salad, roasted potatoes, corn on the cob. It was delicious. Kelsie made a white cake with raspberry filling and white chocolate cream cheese frosting all from scratch and it was so good. I really appreciate their efforts to shower me with love that day. Scott got me a Valentine's, Mother's Day, Wedding Anniversary, and Birthday gift, thanks honey! Ryan even bought me a present, Destina made me breakfast and Avrie gave me lots of hugs and kisses. Katie sent me a present that arrived on Sat and was just what I asked for, but the best part of Katie's presents are her homemade cards! I was able to Skype with Katie and Jayden, my sister and niece and a few others that popped in for a minute. My other sister sent a present home with Destina back in August and I waited until my birthday to open it and loved the belts! It was a good day filled with some of the people I love most is the whole world. Thank you everyone!!

Tender Mercies
I am editing this post for an assignment in school. Yes, I made the leap and went back to school to finish what I started 25 years and 7 kids ago. I am taking online courses through the pathway's program at BYU-I. One of my classes is a religion class and we had an assignment to put together some of the things we learned this week. Tender Mercies was one of the topics and linking a blog post was one of the ways to do the assignment.
I started having problems with my car, that is 3 only years old, a couple months back. Scott took it in to the dealer to see what was wrong, they fixed one of the problems and told Scott what the other problem was so he could fix it. It was the starter motor, it made a horrible sound about every 3rd time I turned the car on, then it started happening almost every other time. I kept bugging Scott to get it fixed but he has been so busy fixing other cars that ours get neglected. Then about a month ago it started making a really bad rattling sound and I finally bugged him enough that he made an appointment to find out what was making that horrible sound. We took the car in and the dealer could not find anything wrong with the car, they had 3 different service guys drive it to see if it would make the noise and it didn't. There were no check engine lights on and they called us to come pick the car up and they didn't charge us for the visit. Since then my car has started every time without making that horrible starter motor sound and the other horrible sound is mostly gone, I can still hear it making a slight noise but for the most part my car is running good again. I can't explain why it started running without problems I was just grateful for that tender mercy, for that reminder that Heavenly Father is aware of me and my needs.
In class we will be studying the Book of Mormon all year and in my reading this week in 1 Nephi 1:20 I had underlined this part of the scripture, "...the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith..." and in my notes at the bottom of the page I underlined this, "They serve as a reminder that the Lord loves to extend kindness and mercy to each of us." I really needed to hear that and after reading that passage I blogged about the above tender mercy, and I have been trying to be more aware of the tender mercies that happen in my life on a daily basis. Elder Bednar in his first conference address stated this about tender mercies, "Through personal study, observation, pondering, and prayer, I believe I have come to better understand that the Lord’s tender mercies are the very personal and individualized blessings, strength, protection, assurances, guidance, loving-kindnesses, consolation, support, and spiritual gifts which we receive from and because of and through the Lord Jesus Christ." So tender mercies will not always be in the form of a car healing itself, they can come in many forms and my seem like coincidence, or a lucky break, but it is the Lord showing his love for us. I am thankful for the tender mercy of my car working again, we have so much stress and other things going on around here that it is such a relief to not worry about my car not running.

Who Loved Her Best
Last night as I was not sleeping, but tossing and turning, I was reminded of an event back in my childhood. I was a rebellious child, I struggled to be loved and understood by my parents so I acted out. One time when I was 12 or 13 I was planning on going to Lagoon with a group of friends on the Saturday before Mother's Day. Something happened either the day before or that morning but I had a fight with my mom and I went out to enjoy my day at the amusement park with things unsettled. I am sure I was right, I am sure she was being nosy and telling me what to do, and who did she think she was to do that? Later that day I must have started feeling guilty because it was Mother's Day the next day and I had not planned ahead, so with my last $5.00 I bought my mom a Lagoon key chain to give to her on Mother's Day. The next day I was excited to let my mom see that I had been thinking about her and that I did love her and I was sure she would love the present that I used my last $5.00 to buy.
I was really disappointed with my mom's reaction, she was not overjoyed with my thoughtfulness, she was rather annoyed. I then became mad at her again and thus went the remainder of my teenage years. What I realized years later, or maybe just last night, was that my mom did not want a token gift of my love. My mom wanted a child that would not rebel against what was right. My mom wanted a child that showed her how much she loved her by her words, actions and deeds. My mom wanted a child that would love and respect her for the values she was trying to teach and I was not acting like that child.
I spent a good number of years trying to earn back the love, trust and respect that I threw away in my teenage years. I didn't want my mom to ever have to lay awake at night worried about the choices I was making, and I have worked really hard to become someone that my mom could be proud of. My mom passed away 12 years ago tomorrow, I still miss her, she became my dear friend, a confidant, someone that loved, and respected. Her example keeps me going on my worst days, and what I wouldn't give to have her here now. She loved my children, and wanted the best for them.
I am still striving to be a person she can be proud of, when life gets tough I remember her faithfulness, and strength through the tough times that she had. She will always be a reminder of the kind of person I want to be, and I am so grateful for eternal families, for the knowledge that we will be reunited as mother and daughter again.
"I love you, Mother," said little John;
Then, forgetting his work, his cap went on.
And he was off to the garden swing,
And left her the water and wood to bring.
"I love you, Mother," said little Nell;
"I love you better than tongue can tell."
Then she teased and pouted full half the day,
Till her mother rejoiced when she went to play.
"I love you, Mother," said little Fan;
"To-day I’ll help you all I can;
How glad I am school doesn't keep!"
So she rocked the baby till it fell asleep.
Then, stepping softly, she took the broom,
And swept the floor and tidied the room.
Busy and happy all day was she,
Helpful and happy as child could be.
"I love you, Mother," again they said,
Three little children going to bed.
How do you think that Mother guessed
Which of them really loved her best?

Labor Day Hike
On Labor Day we took the girls on a hike, Avrie made us set the timer for 45 minutes so that we could be done, but when the timer went off at 45 minutes it was a sad realization that we had to go all the way back, another 45 minutes. We have been doing a lot of walks this summer taking advantage of the beautiful trails so close to our home. Usually it is just Scott and I but occasionally we get others to come along.

First Day of School
We are well on our way this school year. School started about a week earlier than normal and it just seemed to sneak right up on me. I was behind in getting things done and filled out, and I am behind in getting first day pictures posted, but I did take them.
Avrie is in 3rd grade, her teacher lives right across the street and I thought that because she was right across the street that she wasn't allowed to teach my kids, none of my other kids have been in any of her classes. But when I asked her she said no, that they make the class list then hand it to the teachers. This will be a fun year, Avrie is making some new friends and still loves her old ones. It is also the first year that she does not have her big sister at school looking after her and walking home with her. I think Avrie is realizing how nice her big sister is and she is lucky to have her. Avrie loves school and doing school work, we hare looking forward to a great year!
Destina is in middle school. She is a fashionista she went shopping with her cousins and aunt while in Utah and came home with some new clothes to add the the closet full she already has. She loves putting outfits together and looking her best. So far she is working hard in school and loving her classes and her friends. She is playing soccer at school and playing volleyball for the first time. I love that she can be a girly girl and then get out and get all dirty and stinky and play hard too. Destina has struggled in school a little in the past trying to play catch up but she worked really hard all summer doing math and reading and so far she has come home confident and happy about how school is going. She loves middle school and even opening a tricky locker hasn't got her down.

More Birthday
Destina had a great birthday week. Her sweet friends threw her a surprise birthday party on Saturday, and on Sunday we had our family party. Destina wanted lasagna and as I was talking to McKenzie about going out and buying one she suggested that we have Tim's mom make one. Best suggestion ever, I just drive by her house on Sunday afternoon picked up a huge pan of lasagna and popped it into the oven and it was delicious. I forgot to take a picture but it was beautiful too. Destina wanted ice cream cake and then opened her presents. She moves out of primary and into young women's at church she was really excited. Love that girl to pieces!

1/3rd of the way...
McKenzie hit the 12 week mark, the excitement has died down a little just because I would be worn out if I stayed as excited as I was. March 16th is the due date, this will be our first Spring baby!
